making old new again...

We all have them laying around...and old piece of furniture that was handed down, is outdated, has sentimental value but just doesn't quite fit in your home as is, or even that one piece you have from college when you took just about anything you could get...Whats there to do with it?!?

Repaint, restain, redo!

I was asked to do "redo" this dresser for my sweet new nephew or niece due in the next few weeks! My sister in law found a great piece in Roudtop but baby blue wasn't going to work for her! She sent me a few inspiration pics and I started the search for paint.

Here is before:
It is hard to tell but this is baby blue chalk paint.

This Annie Sloan paint was suggested, but I have used Sherwin Williams paint on some other pieces I have done so I went with the closest color I could find. I ended up using Functional Gray. After the 50 shades of gray saga I ended up having a sample can of that color and got started.

You can see here where the gray started on the right.

When I was done painting with the flat gray I started with a decorative glaze on the drawers:

before (left) and after glaze (right)

After a few layers of glaze and destressing...

I am pretty pleased with the finish product! :)

If you are interested in doing this yourself and have more questions or have a piece you would like help with please don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Tuesday!

spring

Spring and the month of March are one of my favorite times of year! I love that the sun starts to stay out later, work can begin again in the garden and everything begins to bloom! Not to mention it is when my husband and I got married...and the month he was born! :)

1. Tulips! or any fresh blooming spring flower for that matter. They instantly bring a smile to my face.
2. Babies everywhere! It is so neat to see ducklings and lambs and birds building their nests to welcome new baby birds :)
3. Bunnies! I love a bunny and all of the other wonderful Spring and Easter decorations that arrive with the season.
4. Crawfish and a cold beer on a spring afternoon...doesn't get much better, especially if it is Derek's crawfish! Every year we have an annual crawfish boil and we are counting down the days.
5. Blooming trees and branches! Quince, cherry blossom, apple and pear trees all show off beautiful flowers and smells. They look great in a vase on your table as well!

Although it doesn't feel or look much like Spring here in Texas, it is right around the corner and I can not wait! I hope this warms up your day even just a little bit. The heat will be here soon! :)

Happy Wednesday!

alex perry

So, I might be late to the game on this one, but Alex Perry and his beautiful dresses just hit my radar. I first took notice when Sandra Bullock wore this beautiful dress at the Palm Springs Film Festival. She has been looking great all year, thanks to a new stylist, but that's another post :)

Sandra Bullock rocks a pink Alex Perry dress with stunning orange accent sleeves.

And then when I was watching the Grammy pre-show Giuliana had on this amazing dress...

E!

I immediately googled this Alex Perry and found even more amazing gorgeousness. He is an Australian designer and his latest collections are really getting some US attention! I am into bright colors right now in accessories, sweaters, dresses and even skirts so this collection is right up my ally...could be a little Spring Fever :)

Here are some of my favorite looks from his latest collection.

tassel necklaces

I was asked a while back where to find tassel necklaces so I thought I would share in a little post :)

I love them! They are so versatile and can change a plain black or white tee into a fun outfit. They look great layered or just alone - with jeans, skinnys, a skirt or maxi dress -I just think they are so fun!

Here are a few of my favorite looks -
tassel necklace and plain clothing.
gold tassel necklace.

We can't leave out OP...she took her layered tassel necklace on vacay and looked great wearing it everyday with different looks...of course... :)
